Glossary - MRR/RealRacing Terms

The following terms are presented in alphabetical order.
Words in the "Meaning" column set in bold italics are terms explained elsewhere in the list.

Term Meaning
achievements You earn achievements (and Gold) in RR3 by reaching certain goals - like "Win 50 races in a row", for example.
AI / bots AI is an abbreviation for Artificial Intelligence, which refers to the code in the RR3 app that controls the other cars you compete against.  Those "fake" opponents are called robots, or simply bots.
alien(s) A term used here in MRR to refer to the players who are so fast (especially in TTs) it is thought they must surely be from another planet.
BA Abbreviation for braking assists.
braking assists Refers to the setting in RR3 wherein the app will apply the brakes of cars for you if you have not done so at the proper point (according to the AI logic of RR3).  Most players agree that the use of braking assists will result in slower lap times.
career Refers to the sequence of Series that must be completed in a specific order in RR3.
category Refers to the grouping of Series in RR3.  The categories used in RR3 are Amateur, Pro/Am, Pro, Expert, Master, Elite, and Legend.  In the MRR database, you will also see Special, which is used for RR3 Challenges and Weekly Time Trials (WTT).
cloud save Refers to the feature in RR3 that allows you to save a backup copy of your game progress (your entire profile, in fact) on the FM server(s).  See also iFunBox (below).
CRB Abbreviation for Clean Race Bonus, which consists of additional R$ winnings awarded at the end of each event to cover the cost of repairing damage to your car incurred during the race.  It is usually about 25% of the R$ winnings.
DeLorean Refers to the process of manipulating the time settings on your device.  See also the FAQ entry on DeLorean.
discount Refers to any of the discounts off the purchase price of cars that are offered from time to time in RR3.  There is a 20% discount (usually) offered when a car is unlocked, weekly discounts for "featured" cars, and sometimes special weekend discounts offered less frequently.
drive pips These are represented by the blue marks under "Drive" at the top of the screen in RR3.  Each time you run a Time Trial, it costs 1 drive pip.  They are replenished automatically, one every few minutes (this time period may vary based on driver level, or possibly other factors; it's not really clear), up to a maximum of five.  Or you may replenish immediately for two Gold Coins.
driver level As you progress through the available events in RR3, you earn Fame points.  When you've earned enough points (which increases as your level gets higher), you level-up to the next driver level.
EA Abbreviation for Electronic Arts - the parent company of FM.
events Refers to the races that can be run in RR3.  Each event belongs to a tier, which, in-turn, belongs to a series.
fame This term has two meanings:
  • In RR3, it refers to the points earned in each event that allow you to level-up in the game.
  • In the MyXxxxx family of sites, it refers to points earned by contributing to the site(s), or by being repped by other members.  See also fame under "General".
farming The process of running events in RR3 over and over again in order to accumulate more R$ and Fame (to gain GC).
FC Abbreviation for force close.
FEMA A creative combination of FM and EA, referring to the FireMonkey division and its parent company, Electronic Arts.
FM Abbreviation for FireMonkey - the developer of RealRacing 3.  Among the RR2 community, FM refers to FireMint, one of the predecessors of FireMonkey.
force close Refers to the process of forcing the RR3 app to close, usually to avoid having it complete a specific process.  The method of force-closing an app can vary from device to device, and version to version.  Consult the documentation for your specific device.
GameCenter Apple's host for mobile game leaderboards/achievements features. 
garage Refers to a player's collection of cars.
GC Abbreviation for gold coins.
Abbreviation for GameCenter.
Gigi ranking Refers to a method of ranking the results of tournaments, so named because it was proposed by MRR member gigirivacattivo.  With this method, the worst result of each participant is dropped when calculating overall points for the tournament.
goals Most commonly used to refer to the various tasks that must be completed during each stage of an (RR3) challenge.  Each goal consists of one to three events, and usually has special requirements or conditions associated with it.
gold coins One of two currencies used in RR3 - also called simply gold.  It is the most precious currency in the game.  Gold can be difficult to acquire, and many things in the game cost a lot of gold.
grinding Similar to farming, but most often refers to RR3 Team Challenges, in which participants have to run events over and over to achieve the highest goal required by each Challenge.
hot fix Refers to the quick software (or data file) updates that occasionally download as RR3 is loading.
iFunBox iFunBox is a program that runs on a PC or Mac and connects to an iOS device via USB cable.  It allows you to transfer files from/to your iDevice and is a great way to manage backups of your RR3 profile without having to rely on the cloud save feature.  For a detailed explanation, see the Using iFunbox thread.
Kotter Comes from the '70s sitcom, Welcome Back, Kotter.  It refers to a process that sometimes triggers "Welcome back" bonuses in RR3.  See also the FAQ entry on Kotter.
level-up Also leveling-up - refers to the instance when you attain enough fame points to be moved to the next driver level.  You are awarded gold coins each time you level-up.
Monkeys Refers to FireMonkey - the developer of RealRacing 3.
Monkey math Refers to the unexplainable "errors" that are commonly found in the calculations performed by RR3.
MRR Abbreviation for MyRealRacing.club.
OMP Abbreviation for Online Multi-Player - the feature of RR3 that allows multiple players to race each other in real time.
PR Abbreviation for Performance Rating - a measurement of how each car performs at any given level of upgrades.  Minimum PR requirements are also assigned to most Cup events in order to restrict which cars can be used to run those events.
purse Refers to the amount of R$ awarded upon completion of an event - i.e. "winner's purse".
R$ One of the two currencies used in RR3.  Unlike gold, R$ are fairly easy to acquire.
rankings Refers to the ordering of results, by assigned point values, for tournaments.  Rankings are shown for each stage of the tournament, as well as the overall rankings
RR2 Refers to the RealRacing 2 app.
RR3 Refers to the RealRacing 3 app.
SA Abbreviation for steering assist.
series Refers to a collection of tiers, which, in-turn, each contain one to three events.  Each series is limited to a few cars, which usually have comparable performance characteristics.
stages This term has two meanings:
  • In RR3, it refers to the different sets of goals that must be completed for an RR3 challenge.  Usually each stage equates to a day, but this is not necessarily true when a challenge gets included in the career path.
  • In MRR, it refers to the different challenges that make up a tournament.
standings Refers to the ordering of results in the leaderboards - always from best to worst.
steering assist On some devices, the use of tilt steering controls can cause the cars to be a bit "twitchy".  The steering assist setting is intended to dampen that twitchiness, making the cars easier to control.  Most players agree that the use of steering assist does not affect racing speed.
tab In the RR3 app, tiers for each series are arranged on one screen, with numbered tabs at the bottom for easy selection of any tier.
TC Abbreviation for traction control.
teams RR3 allows players to create teams, and invite other players to join them (maximum of 20 per team).  Team events run periodically, with prizes offered for the top teams.  The teams feature of MRR simply offers a place for members to keep track of their RR3 team roster.
tiers All events in a series are divided into groups, called tiers.  Each tier contains 1 to 3 events.  There can be as many as 23 tiers in a series.
tracks/circuits Tracks refers to the separate racing venues - for example: Dubai Autodrome.
Circuits refers to the individual layouts at each track - for example: Dubai Autodrome Grand Prix.
traction control Refers to the setting in RR3 wherein the app will apply try to keep the cars from losing traction - either by controlling its speed, or its steering (it is assumed).  Most players agree that the use of traction control will result in slower lap times.
trophies In RR3, trophies are given for 1st (gold), 2nd (silver), and 3rd (bronze) place finishes in each event.  These trophies count towards your overall completion level in RR3 - you must get gold trophies in all events to reach 100% completion.  Earning trophies also unlocks series, tiers, and certain cars.
TT Abbreviation for time trial - which is RR3's version of a hot lap (or flying lap).  It is the only type of event in the game for which actual results are stored on FM's server(s).
TTO/Olympics Refers to the Time Trial Olympics, or simply Olympics.  It is the longest running series of tournaments we've had here at MRR.  Members vote on which event will be run, then test their skills against each other in friendly competition.
ULB Abbreviation for Ultimate LeaderBoard - MRR's implementation of the leaderboard feature so common in the gaming world.  Race results may be entered for any event directly into the ULB, or by participating in any of the challenges that are available.  See also the FAQ entry on Leaderboards.
update(s) Refers to new versions of RR3 that are released periodically by FM.
upgrades Refers to enhancements that can be added to cars in RR3 (for either R$ or GC).  With each upgrade, the performance specifications (and the car's PR) are improved.  The different aspects of a car's performance that can be upgraded are: Engine, Drivetrain, Body, Suspension, Exhaust, Brakes, and Tires & Wheels.
wallriding Refers to using the walls or similar barriers on circuits in RR3 in order to get through certain turns faster than would be possible with legitimate racing lines.
WTT Abbreviation for Weekly Time Trial - a time trial event created each week by FM.  WTT events usually have a wider range of cars to choose from than the normal events in RR3.
WTTT Abbreviation for Weekly Time Trial Tournament - which consists of the four current Weekly Time Trials (WTT) in RR3.  Each week, the oldest WTT finishes and a new one is added.  That is also the conclusion of the WTTT.  The addition of the new WTT marks the beginning of the next WTTT.
