How to paste text into posts

This is usually due to your browser security settings, but there is an easy solution without changing your browser settings.  Right-click in the editor window where you wish to paste the text.  You should see a popup menu with a "Paste" option.  When you select "Paste", you will then see a popup window where you can paste your text using Ctrl-v (PC) or Cmd-v (Mac).  Your text will be pasted when you click "Ok".

Deleting forum posts

The site has two ways to show forum posts:  chronologically, where posts are shown in the order they are created, or threaded, where each post is shown with its replies (and replies to those replies, and so on).  Even though we have chosen to show them chronologically, each topic still has a threaded structure, as evidenced by the "(Reply to #nn)" links you see at the top of some posts.  Because of this structure, we cannot allow members to delete their own posts because it could potentially affect many posts downstream.

If you really wish to remove the content of a post, you can edit it and replace the existing content with "Please delete".  A site moderator will eventually see it and delete it for you (if possible).

Duplicate posts in the forums

If you create a duplicate post, please edit one of the duplicates and replace the existing content with "Duplicate post".  A site moderator will eventually see it and delete it for you (if possible).

Positioning images and smileys

This is an annoying side-effect of the plug-ins that insert images and smileys in the WYSIWYG editor window when you are using a touch device, but there's a work-around.  Type any character in the place where you want the image or smiley to be inserted, then "select" that character - for example, on the iPad, you would long-tap on the character until a popup menu appears that shows options like "Select", "Select all", etc.  Once it is selected, you can then insert an image or smiley and it should replace the selected character.  Although it takes a little extra effort, at least it gives you the ability to structure your post as desired.

"Send Email" vs. "Send PM"

There are two ways to send messages to other members: via the Contact form (Email), or via Private Message (PM).  When viewing forum topics, you'll see these as two buttons on the left side of each post (if the member has elected to receive messages) labeled "Send Email" or "Send PM".  If you are viewing a member's profile, the "Contact" tab at the top will allow you to send an email, whereas the "Send this user a private message" link in the "Basic Information" section will work the same as "Send PM".
