What is "Santa's Blessing"?

Santa's Blessing refers to an exploit discovered back when RR3 v2.0 was released.  Evidently, there was a slight change in the structure of one of the files that makes up a player's profile, so by moving v2.0 files back to v1.5, the fields were slightly off, causing huge values in R$ and Fame.  If that version of RR3 was then updated to v2.0, the huge values remained.  [There was actually a bit more to it than that, but it's history now, so it doesn't really matter.]  The name Santa's Blessing was coined by an MRR member because this all happened around Christmas.  After a profile has been modified in this manner, it is also referred to as a blessed account.

Kotter explained

Kotter comes from the '70s sitcom, Welcome Back, Kotter.  It refers to a process that sometimes triggers "Welcome back" bonuses in RR3.  You may also see this process referred to as "watching Kotter reruns", or being in "Gabe's class", which is a reference to Gabe Kaplan, the actor who portrayed Kotter.  A search of "Kotter" in the MRR forums will bring up many results, but perhaps the most comprehensive one is the Kotter Tutorial Video thread.

What are Tournaments?

Tournaments can refer to two different things:

  • In RR3, there are Weekly Time Trial Tournaments (WTTT), which are made up of the four current Weekly Time Trials (WTT).  Each week, the oldest WTT finshes and a new one is added.  That is also the conclusion of the WTTT, with prizes being awarded to the top finishers.  The addition of the new WTT marks the beginning of the next WTTT.
  • In MRR, a Tournament is a series of Challenges (individual events) hosted by MRR members, listed in the Tournaments section of MRR (link in top menu bar).  Tournaments can run for a specific period of time, or be ongoing with no end date.  When members post entries for the Challenges assigned to one or more Tournaments, the results are automatically included in the points ranking tables.

Renting upgrades explained

Time Trial events are unique in that the results are stored on FM's server(s).  If you wish to participate in a Time Trial Tournament or Challenge, but don't have a fully-upgraded car, you can upgrade your car temporarily.  First do a cloud save (or backup your profile by other means), then you can spend as much Gold as necessary to upgrade your car, and even skip service times and replenish drive pips.  Once you've run the TT as many times as you wish, you would then restore your backup (from your previous cloud save or external backup) and get all your Gold back.

What are Leaderboards?

This term has two meanings:

  • In RR3, it refers to the lists of leaders in various special events, such as Time Trial Tournaments and Team Challenges.
  • In MRR, it refers to the lists of leaders (fastest times, longest distances, highest speeds, etc.) of any/all events in RR3.
